I'd like to read this message from Meg Withers, an English professor who is gifting Yu-Han her mother's nursing cap back.
A message from Meg.
The Navy Nurse Corps was established in 1908, and women officers worked both in battle as well as at Naval hospitals, earning the respect and affection of those who had been injured during their tours of duty.
Christina Theresa Lombardi Withers served as a flight nurse at Moffett Field, and loved accompanying the pilots who took her on stunt flights.
She also nursed the first burn victims from the USS Arizona at Mare Island Naval Hospital.
She was a poet, a scholar, a humorous and kind woman, as is Yu-Han.
Meg also states, my own mother's dedication led to her enlist as an officer in the United States Navy as a nurse during World War II. She, the child of immigrants from another country, neither of whom had any particular education, has embraced her own genius and dedication in every aspect of her life.
Consequently, my family wishes Yu-Han to bear my mother's Navy Nurse Corps cap back with Oakley as a sign of the fine human being and friend she is.
